Not Too Bravo For This Filipino (uhm, Chinese?) and other tales of stalking and shameless plugging

Last Thursday had all of Manila's socialites and social climbers coming to Ayala Center. It was the soft launch of Manila's most premier shopping destination Greenbelt 5. And what better way to celebrate the coming of the most stylish mall today is to coincide with the celebration of Manila's stylish set too.

As part of the month long celebration and romancing of everything Filipino (from traditions, cultures and even designs), Bravo Filipino The Fashion Show in Greenbelt was timely. If you haven't been to GB5 lately, you must be living under a stone! Well, just in case you missed it, GB5 has the best range of some of the most brilliant names in Filipino fashion and design. It has names like Vic Barba, Jun Escario, Amina Aranaz, Michi Calica, Lulu Tan-Gan, the formidable avante-garde designers Jojie Lloren, Randy Ortiz, Joey Samson and Ivarluski Aseron (I think), Ana Rocha, Lila Almario, Budji Layug among others. Of course, it also boasts of some of the best retail names in the country today. Adora leads the pack (from the same group as Tyler), Chito Vijandre's store, Zara, Mix, Kiehl's, Kenneth Cole, Massimo Duty, Banana Rep and much, much more. Of course, the culinary menu is also the finest. John and Yoko, Fely J's, Padre Damaso, Travel Cafe, Myron's and many many others.

It's really impressive. And so was the soft launch. The fashion show featured some of the best names in design today. Aureo Alonzo, Manong Ben Ferrales, Nolie Hans, Patis Tesoro and Pitoy Moreno. A mini-tribute was in order for these design wonders. And of course, a barrage of other big names was also present. Inno Sotto was this show's creative director.

Where there are big shows and big advocacies like such, expect big names and big blings to show up too. The Doyenne herself was present, and so were her rocks. She's definitely no J-Lo as she is a show by herself. I'm completely mesmerized. The Cat too was there. And of course, how can one miss the big man himself? He was there complete with the entourage. This just to name a few.

Now, you may be wondering what a person like me who doesn't even have half their estate was doing there? Well, I served that night as a lame usher. I was asked to "usher" these VIPs to their seats. Well, I felt that I was the best usher that night, as I dished out one smile, after the other, after the other, with non-stop greetings and well wishes. I could give GMA's Protocol Officers a run for their money. And yes, I was stalking the VIPs and the pretentious set. I was having a blast comparing their jewels and what not.

Until. Well. You won't read it here. Hehehe. It's too sensitive. Cut the long story short, some elements in "white" and "gray" ruined that night for me. White being her usual jologs and patronizing self, shamelessly practiced what no good protocol officer should do- seat their friends on front seat. Now, if only her friends were beautiful then that would've been a different story. BUT! It ends there. And as for Gray, she was being usual "pointy" "plastic" and "im-so-effing-good-you-can't-effing-blame-me!" self. Oh well.

So for this Filipino, it wasn't too bravo. Oh well. But since the show was nice, though I must admit that it was a tad too long and paced too slowly with no drama or what, it was great to revel on the fantastic pinoy that we are. That night reminded me that we are still world class. \

Visit Greenbelt Malls. It's open daily.
